For
our 90th Anniversary Convention, the TCA is proud to present
"The Texas Triathlon", a combination of golf,
fishing and market prognostication. Since most of us spend
a fair amount of our time on at least one of these activities
already, we figured we'd institutionalize this deal! Prizes
will be awarded for each individual activity and for the
overall score, so everybody can participate in any or all
of the three legs. Each segment will be weighted the same,
and will be worth 100 points for 1st Place, 50 points for
2nd Place and 25 points for 3rd Place. There will also be
bonus points awarded based on participation, 25 points for
two events and 50 points for all three. The overall winners
will really be worthy of an endurance prize, and there are
premiums for being gutsy enough to "be in the game",
just like there are in the cotton business!
The fishing tournament will run from 6:30am to 11:00am from
Jim's Pier. The cost will be $300 per boat including tackle,
drinks, prizes, and tips. You have an option as to the number
of people per boat. If you wish to fish 2 people per boat
the cost will be $150 per person. If you wish to fish 3
people per boat the cost is $100 each. Remember to let us
know on your reservation form which option you prefer. The
boats are 18-22 feet and guides say they will fish three
guests comfortably, but we wanted to give you the option.
You will need a Texas Fishing License with a saltwater stamp
which can be purchased by phone at 1-800-TX LIC 4 U (895-4248).
Prize money won't solve your financial problems, but it
will buy you a drink and give you some bragging rights.
Jim's Pier is right next to Amberjack's Restaurant, which
is left off the main drag toward the bay at the third light
north of the causeway. Be ready to cast off at 6:30, and
we'll have you back by 11:00 for the weigh-in so that you
can get ready for the second leg of the Triathlon.
The Golf Tournament will be held at the South Padre Island
Golf Club with a 1:00pm tee-off. Ross Barber has graciously
agreed to run this tournament as he has in the past, so
it will be the familiar scramble format. You may hand-pick
your team if you find three other people willing to spend
four hours with you - just let Ross know by calling him
at ( 806)763-5278. The fee is $75 including green fees,
cart and drinks. Prizes will be awarded as usual on Thursday
night. Transportation from the hotel will be available if
you have reserved it in advance on your TCA Convention registration
form. If you want to drive to the course directions have
been provided for you in this package.
The final leg of the Texas Triathlon is being smart enough
to predict the market close for July futures for that day,
namely Wednesday, April 18, 2001. Everybody can participate
in that, and it's free, but there's just one guess per TCA
registration, so don't forget to put yours down on your
registration form when you send it in.
So if you're smart, lucky or GOOD, you may already be a
winner! JOIN US! |
